Fast food restaurants have been upping their game in an attempt to increase their customer base by adding “fresh” items like salads to their menus.
With popular choices like southwest salads and salads featuring fresh greens rather than just romaine lettuce, places like Carl’s Jr. and elsewhere can offer customers a larger selection of menu items.
Though scarce, Carl’s Jr. currently offers a side salad, a charbroiled chicken salad, and –on their Green Burrito menu– a taco salad.
Carl’s Jr. has three salad options on their menu that include Charbroiled Chicken Salad, The Green Burrito Taco Salad, and the side salad. All three salads are available during lunch and dinner hours.
In 2009, Carl’s Jr. unwrapped their initial salad line-up, which featured three grilled chicken salads loaded with toppings.
The three salads being introduced to the menu for a limited time were the Southwest Chicken Salad, the Cranberry Apple Walnut Chicken Salad, and the Original Grilled Chicken Salad.
Before this line-up was added to the menu, the side salad was the only salad option available at the fast food giant. Carl’s Jr. no longer serves these three salads, though they do offer other salad options.
Carl’s Jr. has swapped out the Original Grilled Chicken Salad for a Charbroiled Chicken Salad, which consists of a bed of lettuce, a shredded four cheese blend, croutons, red onion, tomato and charbroiled chicken breast.
Customers seem to enjoy Carl’s Jr.’s Charbroiled Chicken Salad above their other two salad options.
Another choice is their smaller portioned side salad. A side salad at Carl’s Jr. contains red onion, tomato, a four cheese blend and croutons on a bed of iceberg lettuce.
With the Green Burrito Taco Salad, customers can choose between beef, Charbroiled Chicken or Charbroiled Steak to go with the salad.
The Taco Salad can include shredded lettuce, fresh salsa, hot sauce, guacamole, pico de gallo, a four cheese blend, crema and more cotija cheese, all served in a tortilla bowl.
Compared to other menu items at Carl’s Jr., their salad choices are usually a bit cheaper. A side salad could cost you about the same as a side of french fries.
Carl’s Jr. offers their salads at varying prices depending on the restaurant location. The prices for a Charbroiled Chicken Salad in New York will be different from the price for the same salad in Florida.
Though the average prices for their two larger salads generally range from $7 to $10, it is best to check with your local Carl’s Jr. location to view their menu pricing.
Along with price information, nutritional information is also available both online and in-store.
According to Carl’s Jr, a side salad rings in at a mere 140 calories, while its Charbroiled Chicken counterpart is double the amount at 280 calories. The Taco Salad weighs in at roughly 730-890 calories depending on your choice of meat.
Choosing a salad at Carl’s Jr. might be a better option if you’re trying to watch your calorie consumption.
Compare their 280-calorie Charbroiled Chicken Salad to McDonald’s signature Big Mac sandwich, which has roughly 563 calories.
For a while, it appeared that Carl’s Jr., as well as their sister company Hardee’s, did not have any salad options on their menus aside from the side salad, which was only available at select locations.
After their three signature grilled salads disappeared from their menu, customers had to go elsewhere for their salad fix.
With the recent spike in health-conscious consumers wanting more in their fast food options, Carl’s Jr. has reigned in on this trend, revamping their old salad menu for fresh, new options.
There is no word on whether or not their current salads will remain on the menu indefinitely, so get one while they’re still around if you’ve been considering a Carl’s Jr. salad instead of a burger, sandwich or burrito.
Carl’s Jr. still has salads, and by offering three different salad choices, including a side salad for smaller appetites or side substitutions, Carl’s Jr. can stay ahead of some of their competition and keep up with increasing consumer demands.
Depending on your local Carl’s Jr. location, you have the choice to order a Taco Salad, a side salad, or a Charbroiled Chicken Salad.
All three salad options are available during lunch or dinner hours and have fewer calories than a burger and fries.
