Dunkin’ Donuts offers contactless payments with your phone from various sources, and you can do this directly at their payment terminals or via their mobile app. Using their mobile app is a convenient way to order before you arrive so that you can grab your drinks and food without waiting around.
Apple Pay is a major contactless payment provider for your device, which provides the convenience of contactless payment with the security of never giving anybody your actual credit card information and not even having to carry it around.
When you read the reviews of restaurants apps, and they don’t support Apple Pay or any digital wallet, customers are extremely unhappy and demand these options be added.
Dunkin’ Donuts officially supports Apple Pay in-store on their payment terminals and via their mobile app. They were early adopters of this technology and implemented it back in 2015.
If you are looking to use Apple Pay at Dunkin’ Donuts drive-through, assuming your store has one, this is fully supported as well.
So once you get to Dunkin’ Donuts, how do you use Apple Pay?
Apple Pay can be used via two methods at Dunkin’ Donuts:
The first method is that you tap your Apple device to their tap-enabled payment terminals, and that’s it, very simple.
The second method is to add Apple Pay as a payment option on the Dunkin’ Donuts mobile app. Once added, you can order and pay for items through the app either while you’re in the store or before you go. The pay-before-you-go method is excellent if you already know what you want and don’t want to wait, and you’ve already paid for it.
So do these same options work for the drive-through?
Dunkin’ Donuts accepts Apple Pay at its drive-through; the mobile app officially supports this. When you place your order and make payment, you will be given an option to pick up in-store or at a drive-through; you select the drive-through and then proceed there to get your order.
So if you don’t have your apple device with you, could you order online from work with Apple Pay?
Dunkin’ Donuts does not accept orders via its website. You can not purchase items from a specific store for pick-up, and you can’t order their coffee directly from them for delivery to you.
Their website directs you to other online stores or local stores that carry their coffee rather than selling it to you directly.
So if online orders aren’t an option, do they have a kiosk in-store that you use?
Dunkin’ Donuts stores generally do not have kiosks you can order from. Their current assumption is that you order at the counter or use your mobile app to place your order. Adding a kiosk means expense and space taken up. Most people are holding a personal kiosk in their hand when they enter the store.
Dunkin’ Donuts did just open a digital-only store in Boston, which provides service via their mobile app or two kiosks in-store. They also have several locations around the United States that have been testing kiosks as well. However, these kiosks use the standard Dunkin’ Donuts payment terminals, which means that Apple Pay Is accepted, but kiosks are not the standard at Dunkin’ Donuts, so this may not be an option for you.
Another question you may have is can you get Dunkin’ Donuts delivered, and do the delivery services support Apple Pay.
Dunkin’ Donuts officially supports three delivery services, all of which accept Apple Pay. GrubHub, UberEats, and DoorDash are all options you can choose to have Dunkin’ Donuts delivered to you and be able to pay with Apple Pay.
With all of the options available to you with Dunkin’ Donuts and Apple Pay, you may be wondering if there are other options for contactless payment.
Dunkin’ Donuts was an early adopter of contactless payments and fully supports them. So whether you have an Android device or an Apple device, they have you covered. Google Pay is also an option on their mobile app and in-store on their payment terminals.
Google Pay works exactly the same as Apple Pay for Dunkin’ Donuts; either you tap your Android device on the in-store payment terminal or select Google Pay as your payment option in the mobile app.
While the mobile app doesn’t support other digital wallets, you may have success with any that don’t require special equipment. So if your payment option is loaded on your phone and works with a standard tap-enabled payment terminal, it should work at Dunkin’ Donuts. However, ensure you have a backup method if there are any issues. That’s just good general advice for anything you buy.
So we know Dunkin’ Donuts is great and supports most things you could expect before entering any specific agreements with outside payment processors. So what other restaurants are also accepting Apple Pay.
It’s becoming the norm that fast-food restaurants accept Apple Pay and other digital wallets. However, not all of them have moved into the 21st century yet. So, to save you time, I’ve got some good alternatives to Dunkin’ Donuts listed below:
- McDonald’s accepts Apple Pay via their mobile app and by tapping in-store at their tap-enabled payment terminals.
- Starbucks allows you to reload your Starbucks payment card from Apple Pay and supports Apple Pay via their payment terminals at most stores. However, I suspect only old stores that still need updating may not accept Apple Pay.
- Dutch Bros accept Apple Pay and go even further by supporting more digital wallets than Dunkin’ Donuts. Interestingly enough, they support PayPal as well. You don’t often see both PayPal and Apple Pay at the same restaurants. You can pay via their mobile app and in-store at their payment terminals.
Check more stores to see if they accept Apple Pay:
You can use Apple Pay at Dunkin’ Donuts; whether you want to pay via the mobile app or at the register when ordering your food, Dunkin’ Donuts supports you. If you prefer the drive-through, then you simply select that option when ordering via the mobile app.
Two key differences in using Apple Pay at Dunkin’ Donuts are whether you know what you want or still need to look and then order.
If you already know what you want, there is no point in paying at the register and waiting for your food and drink. Instead, order before you arrive, and everything should be ready for pickup at the counter or the drive-through.
If you’re new to Dunkin’ Donuts or want to see what is available that day, simply go up and order in person, and then you can just tap your device on the payment terminal.
